Sorry for reopen an almost year old topic, but I still think it's a very 
important topic for a serious project like our.

We couldn't break API compatibility without incrementing major version 
of project, and we could have made this change without breaking 
backwards compatibility with my proposals.

Please, take a look to document "Semantic Versioning":
http://semver.org/

I think it's important for the seriousness of our project follow these 
guidelines.
