HI:

I am on a native ubuntu, not virtual machine, and " dmesg | grep -E
'video|amera' " delivers:

[ 114.003678] Linux video capture interface: v2.00
[ 114.045003] uvcvideo: Found UVC 1.00 device <unnamed> (046d:0990)
[ 114.060454] input: UVC Camera (046d:0990) as
/devices/pci0000:00/0000:00:1a.0/usb3/3-1/3-1.1/3-1.1:1.0/input/input21

and lsusb delivers:

Bus 003 Device 003: ID 046d:0990 Logitech, Inc. QuickCam Pro 9000

which is pretty similar to yours, but still creates "/dev/v4l". I did
apt-get update &apt-get upgrade and some drivers and libraries were updated.
After that, when I run cameraserver it shows a lot of warnings about
timeout, if I run cameraview in another terminal it shows some other
warnings about timeout but It works!! Its like the video in the examples but
with lots of warnings, it seems to work fine and I can live with that. Maybe
the problem was some old library or driver.

Thanks for the help
