Hi Apurva,
we started one year ago the research line about using FPGA in robotics.
Some initial works are [1][2][3], and we are now working on (a) the visual
control of a drone that follows an object in 3D (b) computer vision with
FPGAs. Unfortunately we have not any project on FPGA for GSoC-2019, just
the proposed ideas (and mentors) in [4], which follow the organization's
priorities on RoboticsAcademy and improving our robot programming tools.
Any way we have a Robotics Club inside JdeRobot organization [5], where you
could be assigned a mentor that would help and advise your collaboration,
would teach you the required abilities, etc... outside GSoC-2019. Currently
there are some active projects involving FPGAs, mainly focused on open
FPGAs (like IceZum Alhambra) and open tools (like IceStudio). Your
contribution can be a way to learn robotics and enjoy being mentored from
faculty and experts in the field. You are kindly invited to the Robotics
Club.
Best regards,
JoseMaria
